Make sure that your local councillors know what you think as well as the council officers.

Write to them

Offer to meet with them and discuss your views

The new system is meant to be about building consensus, so offer to cooperate and assist in the process.

They will be glad to hear from groups and members of the public who are interested and well informed.

It will be helpful if you develop your ideas into specific proposals showing that

• There is credible supporting evidence
  
  
• National planning policy or guidance supports them
  
  
• They perform well against sustainability criteria
  
  
• They are consistent with any other documents that have to be taken into account, such as the community strategy
